Appendix C - File Naming Standards

Use this File Naming Standard to select the appropriate electronic file for use. The file formats provided are explained below. This standard was adopted from the DHS Seal and Signature Usage Guidelines.

Only *1 (AGENCY/PROGRAM), *3 (COLOR CATEGORY) and *8 (EXTENSION) are mandatory.

   Agencies:
   • AUX - USCG Auxiliary

   Programs:

   • VSC - Vessel Safety Check program

2. AMPLIFYING TYPE(Only when Applicable)
   • _S - Seal
   • _M - Mark
   • _E - Ensign
3. COLOR CATEGORY
   For Print:
   • _4 - 4-Color Process (CMYK) - Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Key/Black
   • _S - Spot Full Color (PMS) - Pantone^® Matching System
   • _1 - Spot 1-Color
   For Screen:
   • _V - RGB Video
   • _W - RGB Web Safe
   • _M - RGB WebSmart
   For Print or Screen:
   • _K - Black
4. REVERSE(Only when Applicable)
   • R - Denotes use intended for DARK background
5. TINT(Only when Applicable)
   • _T - 1-Color With Tint
6. ALTERATIONS(Only when Applicable)
   • _at - Alternate
   • _sty - Stylized
   • _ops - Operational
7. GRAPHIC DIMENSIONS(Only when Applicable)
   For Print:
   • _##in - ## inches square
   • _w##in - ## inches in width, height variable
   • _h##in - ## inches in height, width variable
   • _##x##in - ## by ## inches exact dimensions
   For Screen:
   • _###px - ### pixels square
   • _w###px - ### pixels in width, height variable
